8 historic pub walks link 32 old pubs in eight cities, 28.5 km in all, each route downloadable as a GPX file and each stop carrying the date it claims beside the date the records support. Walks between the genuinely old ones, in other words.

Old pubs cluster. Where a crossing, a market or a coaching road once was, three or four of them still stand within a short walk. Each of these routes links pubs we have checked, in walking order, with the distance between stops measured from their coordinates rather than guessed. Call it a pub crawl if you like — the order is the walking order, and what decides a stop is the age of the house rather than what is on at the bar.
