The claim

A bar on Jirón Quilca in the old centre of Lima, working since at least the 1950s, when a Swiss-German couple sold sausage and chips over its counter as the Piqueo Múnich and started Peru on the salchipapa. Beer comes in generous glasses, the piano is played live, and the room stayed open through the pandemic by sending its food out.

What the records show

No founding year has been traced for this bar, and it does not appear to publish one. What places it is the salchipapa: Spanish Wikipedia's account of the dish, drawing on El Comercio and a Lima food blog, has it sold in the 1950s at a place called the Piano Bar Múnich, under the name Piqueo Múnich, kept by a Swiss-German couple called Hans and Helga, before it reached the streets and became one of Peru's emblematic fast foods. So the room was a bar by that decade, and the year here is the decade's first, which is why the grade is C. El Comercio reported in September 2020 that the house was refusing to shut during the pandemic and sending its salchipapas out for delivery, describing it as a place people walk into for a beer, some piano or the food; Infobae still listed it among the historic bars of the old centre in January 2025, where the beer comes in generous glasses and the piano is played live.
