What changed on this site
Our own record of what has changed about the pubs here, generated from the data rather than written by hand. Every line comes from a dated entry in a pub's evidence log or in the lost pubs archive, and links the record it rests on. None of it is reported news, and the difference matters: where a house closed years ago and somebody here read the closure last week, the line says the record was read last week.
The page carries the 60 most recent entries, or 12 months, whichever is the shorter. Today that is 60 of the 426 dated changes inside that window. The same entries are a feed if you would rather not come back and look.

How a line gets here
Five things count as a change: a house recorded as closed, or as temporarily closed, which is the status used when a pub is shut and nothing published says the closure is final; an archive entry withdrawn, because a pub listed among the dead turned out to be pouring; an evidence grade that moved, up or down; a pub added to the archive of lost pubs; and a pub recorded here for the first time. Nothing else qualifies — a page rewritten or a photograph credited is housekeeping, not news about a pub.
The dates are the ones the record carries, which are not always the ones a reader would want. Nobody wrote down the day we first heard of a house, so a pub's line takes the earliest entry in its own evidence log and says it was first recorded here. A closure takes the day the closure record was last read, because that is the day somebody looked. The link at the end of a line is the record the log names, or the one the pub's row leads with; the pub's own page lists the rest.

Houses that have stopped pouring are collected in the archive of lost pubs, the Top 100 counts only pubs still trading, so a closure moves every house below it up the ranking, and how we date and grade a pub explains what the letters mean.
