What is set on this domain, and by whom
OldPubs sets no cookies for its own purposes. There is no session, no login and no tracking cookie.
At the date of this policy the site sets no cookies at all, because advertising is not yet
running. Apart from Google’s own advertising and consent cookies, described below, we set
none of our own. The first to appear will be your consent choice: once
advertising is switched on and the notice appears, Google’s
Privacy and messaging tool stores what you chose in a first-party cookie on oldpubs.com
(FCCDCF, which lasts 13 months, or FCNEC, which lasts 365 days, if you chose
non-personalised ads) so that you are not asked again on every page. It records your answer and
nothing else, and without it the notice could not work.
Google’s advertising also sets first-party cookies on oldpubs.com once it is running —
__gads and __gpi, each lasting 13 months — which it uses to serve ads, cap how often you see
the same one and detect fraud. A third, __eoi, lasts six months and is listed by Google
under security only, not advertising — the category it uses for preventing fraud and protecting
readers, rather than for choosing what you are shown. They are Google’s, not ours: we never read
them and nothing we build uses them.
Those five are the only cookies this domain is expected to carry, and every lifetime given above is Google’s own figure, read on 12 September 2026 from its list of cookies used by Google for advertising. We neither set them nor control how long they last.
Two other things involve storage or third parties, and they are set out below.
Storage on your own device
Four small items are kept in your own browser. None of this is cookie storage: none of it is ever sent with a request, none of it reaches us, and it stays on the device you used.
oldpubs.passport— the pubs you have ticked off in the Pint Passport.oldpubs.quizBest— your best score in “which is older?”.oldpubs.map— the map filters and sort order you last chose.oldpubs.wantsLocation— a note, kept only until you close the tab, that you pressed “use my location” on the home page.
Clearing your browser’s site data for oldpubs.com removes all of it permanently, and there is no backup. The site works perfectly well without any of it.
Advertising cookies
Advertising will be served by Google through AdSense. None is running yet, so no advertising cookie is set today. Once it is, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies to serve ads, cap how often you see the same one, measure performance and detect fraud, and — with consent — to personalise what you are shown.
In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland no advertising cookie is set before you make a choice. The consent notice is Google’s certified Privacy and messaging tool, built on the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. Until you choose, no advertising cookie is written.
To change or withdraw your choice, use the Cookie settings button in the Legal column at the foot of any page. It reopens Google’s consent notice with the choices you made, so refusing what you once allowed takes the same single step that allowing it did. It is there whenever advertising is running, which is whenever there is a choice to withdraw. Clearing this site’s cookies and reloading also brings the notice back, and you can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time — the site works perfectly well without them, because it needs none to function.
To limit personalised advertising more broadly, use Google Ads Settings, optout.aboutads.info, the Digital Advertising Alliance’s YourAdChoices tool, or youronlinechoices.eu.
Analytics
Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without collecting personal data or cross-site identifiers, so there is nothing here to consent to or opt out of. It is not switched on yet; when it is, nothing about it changes for you.
Maps
Opening a map loads tiles from OpenFreeMap. Your browser contacts that service directly, so your IP address reaches it, as it would with any map. Loading a tile does not set a cookie on this site.
