How old is it, really?

How to read this ribbon
Claims 1268; first recorded 1268; building c.1691.

Solid: 758 years on record. Diamond: the standing building, dated from its fabric to about 1691.

The claim

Beside the Těrlicko reservoir in Czech Silesia, this old roadside tavern claims a first written mention in 1268 and a place in the Czech Book of Records as the country's oldest pub. Rebuilt in 1691 after a fire, it survived bandits and the Thirty Years' War. It now pairs a medieval-style taproom with Czech cooking, terraces and hotel rooms.

What the records show

The 1268 record is a charter of 12 May 1268 in which Duke Vladislav of Opole renewed the rights of the Benedictines of Orlová, among them a tavern (taberna) at Těrlicko alongside those at Žukov and Ostrava; Czech Wikipedia cites Prasek, Dějiny knížectví Těšínského (1894), p. 40. That is a tavern in a charter, not a house or an owner, at the claimed date. Two caveats stay: the charter names the estate's tavern rather than the standing building, which burned in 1682 and was rebuilt in 1691, and unbroken trading since 1268 is not demonstrated.
